Palliser Furniture adding jobs in Winnipeg

Manitoba furniture maker Palliser has announced plans to grow its manufacturing capacity and workforce in Winnipeg and Mexico. The company plans to add 700 new jobs at its facilities in Manitoba and Mexico, and increase production by 30 per cent.

Palliser Furniture will also add 12,000 square metres to its upholstery facility in Winnipeg, and add 300 jobs locally. The company will also add 460 new positions to its Mexican operations, expanding both its manufacturing capacity and the number of shifts worked.

The news comes as Canadian tariffs hit furniture imports from Vietnam and China, which have increased demand for Palliser products.

The expansion and growth news comes two years after the company saw layoffs at its Winnipeg manufacturing operation due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
