StandardAero expansion strengthens Manitoba aerospace

StandardAero has completed an expansion of its Winnipeg maintenance facility, adding capacity to one of Manitoba’s key export-oriented industries and strengthening the city’s role as an aerospace hub.The project adds about 70,000 square feet to the facility, increasing its overall footprint by nearly 40 per cent. The Manitoba government supported the expansion with a $3-million investment.

The additional space will allow StandardAero to handle more maintenance, repair and overhaul work on GE Aerospace CF34-3/8 and CFM International CFM56-7B engines, which power commercial and military aircraft.

For Manitoba’s economy, the expansion increases the capacity of a Winnipeg operation serving customers in Canada and international markets. It also creates potential opportunities for local suppliers and service providers supporting aerospace maintenance and manufacturing.

Business, Mining, Trade and Job Creation Minister Jamie Moses said the project will support economic growth, increase provincial exports and create jobs.

“The aerospace industry has long been a cornerstone of Manitoba’s economy and an important part of who we are as a province,” Moses said.

StandardAero has operated in Winnipeg for more than a century and traces its roots to the city. Continued investment keeps high-value aerospace work in Manitoba while giving the operation more capacity to compete for global business.

“Our new, larger facility is central to how we support the CF34 and CFM56 programs that power some of the world’s most widely flown aircraft,” said Peter Wheatley, vice-president and general manager, CF34/CFM56 at StandardAero.

The expansion strengthens Manitoba’s aerospace supply chain and advanced manufacturing sector while supporting demand for specialized services, industrial supplies, transportation and engineering.

The province said the project reinforces Manitoba’s position as a leading aerospace centre and supports growth in advanced manufacturing and aerospace innovation.
