Winnipeg Economic Development & Tourism didn’t have to look far to find its new president and CEO.
Chuck Davidson, who announced he was stepping down as CEO of the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce two weeks ago, will take over the helm of the city’s biggest economic development and tourism agency on Sept. 8.
Davidson, who spent more than a decade leading the largest business lobby group in the province, said he’s excited about his new role in helping build the local economy.
“There is a tremendous opportunity ahead to build on the organization’s strong foundation and bring people together around a more coordinated approach to economic development and tourism,” he says.
“I look forward to working with the talented team at Winnipeg Economic Development & Tourism and our partners to create opportunities for businesses and communities to grow and prosper in Winnipeg and across Manitoba.”
Concurrently with Davidson’s appointment, Winnipeg EDT announced it has been tasked by the province to lead the development of a Manitoba-wide economic development agency.
“Chuck is the right leader to guide Winnipeg Economic Development & Tourism through this important next chapter and the board is fully behind both his leadership and the direction ahead,” said Denise Zaporzan, chair of Winnipeg EDT.
Davidson has played a leadership role in several major provincial economic development initiatives, including serving as co-chair of Manitoba’s Look North process, chair of the Rural Manitoba Economic Development Corporation and co-chair of the Premier’s Business and Jobs Sub-Committee on trade.
He also co-chaired the development of Travel Manitoba’s provincial tourism strategy.
