Clearing the air: Antec Controls creates safe environments for hospitals and research facilities

Antec Controls’ new facility at the Price Industries campus in northeast Winnipeg.

From its humble beginnings on the Price Industries campus 14 years ago, Antec Controls has grown into a global provider of high-performance airflow control solutions for hospitals and other facilities where clean air is an absolute must.

Antec Controls operates in the critical controls market, which also includes laboratories, research facilities, biotech and pharmaceutical companies and any space requiring strict air containment through pressurization from adjacent spaces. For example, a researcher mixing chemicals needs a controlled environment free of dangerous contaminants; a hospital must ensure sterile airflow around vulnerable patients; and pressurization in an operating room helps protect the surgeons and patients from airborne particles and other infection risks.

Matt Nesbitt, Antec Controls’ general manager, says its technology is playing an important role in scientific research and patient care.

“It’s a good feeling to know our equipment is keeping doctors, scientists and researchers safe as their work impacts so many lives. Our purpose is to create safe spaces for the advancement of a better future,” he says.

Price Industries has long been a leader in HVAC manufacturing across North America, so it should come as no surprise that Antec carved out its niche in a related field where precision airflow and pressurization are paramount to safety.

The company has experienced steady year-over-year growth since its inception, prompting its recent move into a new 42,500-square-foot facility, located on Price’s campus in northeast Winnipeg. It’s nearly triple the size of its previous home, where it operated for a decade.

The company’s new facility is designed to not only increase production capacity but also to provide superior support for customers. It boasts a hands-on training centre, featuring a mock operating room, laboratory and pharmacy buffer room, where people can see and learn their systems in real-world conditions.

“This is a big investment for us to continue to serve our customers and grow,” Nesbitt says. “There’s tremendous talent in Winnipeg and after 14 years, we want to keep inviting people to the party and creating a great place to work.”
